DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 3 January 2022 — Advancement in Adversity
DCLM Higher Everyday 3 January 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Advancement in Adversity
TOPIC: ADVANCEMENT IN ADVERSITY
TEXT: EXODUS 14:13-21
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
MEMORY VERSE: “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience”(JAMES 1:2-3).
MESSAGE
The life of a man can be likened to that of a tree which is subject to unpredictable circumstances. The tree is often hit by harsh weather, storms, fire, earthquake and so on. If cut down, it can spring up again and be restored to life. In like manner, man experiences tough times in all spheres of life, but would bounce back strong if he is determined.

From the text, the children of Israel were faced with possible death from the Egyptians; and the Red Sea was a barrier to their escape. This adversity seemed insurmountable for them, but God in His infinite power rescued them in a miraculous way.
This adversity came as the children of Israel took an important step of breaking free from slavery to serve God. This implies that the devil is ready to hinder people from being saved from sin.
Charles Stanley says, “The shortest distance between a problem and a solution is the distance between your knees and the floor.” You should never act like the children of Ephraim who despite being armed, turned back in the day of battle (Psalm 78:9).
QUOTE: It can spring up again.
CHALLENGE: Tough times never last, but tough people do.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, give me the enablement and strength to overcome.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
