DCLM Higher Everyday 10 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Longing for prepared place

TOPIC: LONGING FOR THE PREPARED PLACE

TEXT: JOHN 14:1-4

1And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.

2And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad,

3Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.

4And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.

MEMORY VERSE: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (JOHN 14:2).

MESSAGE:

Augustine wrote, “O God, you made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you.” Any time a saint dies and the funeral ceremonies are being organized, we are reminded that a pilgrim has eventually ended his journey and is gone for his or her rest and rewards.

A truly converted soul awakens to a new awareness of the reality of God and the presence of His Spirit which He has released into his/her soul. Thus, such a soul, realizing its true identity and citizenship of heaven, craves after heaven, the eternal home of all redeemed souls. Daily communion with our Heavenly Father, through daily prayer and study of His word, brings heaven closer to the soul of every true Christian.

All the glittering allurements of this world and all its transient glory would no longer satisfy the hunger and thirst in the soul of a truly sanctified Christian. In heaven alone may such a soul find true rest. If you are a sinner, give your life to Christ and be washed in His soul cleansing blood.

QUOTE: The eternal home of all redeemed souls.

CHALLENGE: Teach your heart to get addicted to the Bread of Heaven.

PRAYER: LORD, may my soul find rest in Thee alone.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
