DCLM Higher Everyday 19 April 2026 — Arithmetic For Spiritual Stability

DCLM Higher Everyday  19 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Arithmetic For Spiritual Stability

Topic: Arithmetic For Spiritual Stability

Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:5-11 (KJV)

5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

MEMORY VERSE:  Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall” (2 Peter 1:10).

Message

To successfully solve any mathematical problem such as word problems or situations where one may be required to find the value of a variable let’s say “x”, there are mathematical steps to be followed. Funny enough, some students might possibly ask why are we always finding “x” and why can’t “x” stay in a place and let’s all rest?

There’s an arithmetic for spiritual stability for every Christian. This simply refers to steps we need to follow to maintain spiritual health, just the same way we follow mathematical steps to find “x” in an algebraic expression. Every sinner obtains citizenship at the gate of salvation through ‘faith’ and obtains the ‘virtue’ of abstinence from sin being enabled by the ‘knowledge’ that is drawn from God’s holy word (Psalm 119:11); through sanctification experience the saved individual is enabled to exhibit temperance (self-control), patience, brotherly kindness and charity (love). These can only be attained by prayer and faith. Growth comes from abiding in God! Just like a generator is powered by fuel, we need to draw from the well of daily communion and fellowship with God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
