DCLM Sincere Milk 19 April 2026 — Religion Versus Righteousness

DCLM Sincere Milk  19 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Religion Versus Righteousness

Topic: Religion Versus Righteousness

Bible Reading: Mark 7:9-16 (KJV)

9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

10For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

11But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

12And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

13Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

14And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

15There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

MEMORY VERSE: “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”Mark 7:13

Message

A dictionary defines religion as a particular system of belief and the rituals that accompany such belief. Righteousness on the other hand is life of holiness and total freedom from sin. Righteousness is the nature of God. No wonder, the most important condition for having fellowship with God is possession of a life of holiness. No one can see God without holiness of life. The Pharisees, Sadducees and scribes were the religious rulers during the earthly ministry of Christ. They were more concerned about the letter and tradition of ceremonial worship than living to please God. This was the reason they often opposed Christ’s teaching and works. They taught the people to observe certain rules and regulations. Whereas they neglected to show compassion, love, faith, justice and fairness. They were disobedient to God’s righteous standard.
The emphasis in the word of God is the need to live a holy life. This is the only condition that guarantees our entry into heaven at last. There were people who lived a righteous life that God testified to. Examples were Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Esther, Daniel, Stephen, Philip’s daughters and many others. It is possible to live a righteous life even in this present evil world. All you need to do is surrender your life to Jesus and accept Him as your personal Saviour and Lord, then you sincerely pray that God should sanctify your heart and make you holy.

PRAYER FOR TODAYI

pray for grace to live a righteous life every day

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
