TOPIC: Blessedness Of Obedience (DCLM Daily Manna 26 March 2022)

TEXT: Genesis 12:1-9 (KJV)

1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.

8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.

9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

KEY VERSE: “So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.” – (Genesis 12:4)

DCLM Daily Manna 26 March 2022 MESSAGE:

Sir Leonard Wood was visiting the king of France. The king was pleased with him and invited him to dinner the next day. He went. But the king said, “Sir Leonard, I did not expect to see you. How is it that you are here?” “Did not your majesty invite me to dine with you?” “Yes, but you did not answer my invitation.” Leonard Wood ended the king’s interrogation by answering, “A king’s invitation is never to be answered, but to be obeyed.”

Two things stand out in Abraham’s life: his faith and obedience. The Lord called him out of the comfort zone of his people, and he obeyed and left. Abram took his wife, his nephew Lot and all his possessions and went towards the direction God led him. This was a practical demonstration of his belief and trust in God’s promises.

It is impossible for us to discover new territories if we are unwilling to leave our present shores. This is where many will have to borrow a leaf from Abraham. Some people have rejected the call unto salvation because they do not intend to quit their jobs or sources of income, which might be ungodly. Others await their worldly friends and family members to approve of their decisions before they comply.

The encouragement is for us to take a leap of faith and demonstrate true obedience. We also need to trust the Lord’s promise to liberate us. We should burn the bridge behind us so there will be no turning back to the world as we press on in obedience to God.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Obedience leads to fulfilment of God’s promises.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
