TOPIC: SAINTS PROFIT FROM SUFFERINGS

TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 2:8-13

8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

MEMORY VERSE: “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us” (2 TIMOTHY 2:12).

MESSAGE:

Suffering for the faith or suffering for righteousness sake is a common experience of true saints. Jesus suffered for His teachings and doctrines. He was even killed. Paul, the Apostle, suffered for the gospel and for the elect’s sake. Saints of old suffered and saints today will suffer for their convictions.

Suffering comes in various forms, including, slander, ridicule, criticism and name-calling. Christian youths may suffer denial of rights and entitlements, false accusations, reproach, oppression and rejection.

The purpose of Satan and persecutors is to make us deny the Lord. But we must stand firm. We must follow the example of the Lord during persecution. We must remain sinless, blameless and harmless. We must seek to win the lost to Christ by remaining steadfast in the faith during persecution.

Believers suffering for righteousness are blessed because they are made partakers of Christ’s suffering and reproach. Saints are purified through suffering. Their faith and convictions are deepened during persecutions. Their witnesses for Christ are enhanced. They shall reign with Him in glory and great will be their reward in heaven.

QUOTE: We must stand firm.

CHALLENGE: Suffering is a common experience of true saints.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to stando during trying moments.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
