TOPIC: CHRISTIAN MODERATION

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:1-5

1Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

2I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

3And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

4Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

5Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

MEMORY VERSE: “Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand” (PHILIPPIANS 4:5).

MESSAGE:

A writer said, “The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life.” Believers must live a balanced life. All extremes are dangerous.

Children of God are under obligation to control their appetite for drinking and eating. They should not be talkative because, “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin…” (Proverbs 10:19). We are to be free from all forms of excesses.

While Christians should not be odd in their lifestyle, neither should they compete with the world in the rat race for what is in vogue. A child of God is expected to maintain the “middle of the road” policy. Avoid things archaic, but be cautious about trending things. Some modern trends in fashion are really weird and Christian youths will do well to keep off them.

As we earnestly wait for the coming of the Lord, we must avoid a flamboyant and extravagant lifestyle. Be holy and prayerful. Our radiant Christ-like life must be visible for all to see, thereby attracting sinners to Christ.

QUOTE: Believers must live a moderate life.

CHALLENGE: Let others see Jesus in you.

PRAYER: Father, help me to be moderate in all things, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
