DCLM Higher Everyday 2 October 2022 — Dare to live before you die

DCLM Higher Everyday 2 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Dare to live before you die

TOPIC: DARE TO LIVE BEFORE YOU DIE

TEXT: PROVERBS 10:1-6

1The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

3The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

4He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

MEMORY VERSE: “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich” (PROVERBS 10:4).

MESSAGE:

Genesis 5 lists a long line of people each of whom lived for hundreds of years. Methuselah lived the longest – 969 years! Like all the others however, his life was summarised in two clauses: “And Methuselah lived…and he died.”

His impressive longevity recorded no single achievement, no noteworthy event, no challenging success and, no lasting legacy. He just lived, and died!

A tragic life is one that records mere existence without meaningful achievement; there is a difference between living a successful life and mere existence.

You have existence at birth, but life really begins only when you forge a connection by grace with Jesus Christ, the Giver of eternal life. Redemption then lifts you up. You learn to fill your life with meaningful goals, purposeful actions and successful achievements.

You live your life to the fullest so that when you die, you have no regrets. But more importantly, pray in the words of Gundo Ramaphuma, “When I come to die. Be I dying a young man’s death. Or an old man’s death. Let me die having given my life to the Lord.”

QUOTE: A tragic life…records mere existence.

CHALLENGE: Living precedes dying, but what is living?

PRAYER: Lord, let my life count for You. Amen.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
