DCLM Daily Manna 30 August 2021 — Speak The Truth Always

TOPIC: Speak The Truth Always (DCLM Daily Manna 30 August 2021)

TEXT: Matthew 5:33-37

33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

KEY VERSE: “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” – (Matthew 5:37)

MESSAGE:

Lucius was looking for a less crowded place as he chose the extreme end of an Eatery to have his lunch. Only three persons were there at that corner, so he took a seat at the opposite end. Barely had he settled down when he started overhearing two of the three telling the third person how he should frame the lies he was to tell the court against their opponents. “But I have never done this before”, the third person interjected. “Don’t worry, just be bold and tell the court you were there when it all happened. We will credit your account tomorrow”. Lucius could scarcely believe his ears.

Under the Old Testament dispensation people were allowed to take oaths as “an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife” (Hebrews 6:16). But in this new dispensation, the Lord forbids believers from the act of swearing any oaths. Their “yea” must be “yea” and their “nay” nay. That is just enough to convey whatever the believer desires to say.

Today, people tell lies often and also swear at it. But the believer is different because his God is Truth personified. He is Light and in Him is no darkness at all. Satan on the other hand is the father of lies and liars (John 8:44). His children therefore, like their father, will also live in lies and falsehood.

But why do people tell lies? Maybe because of fear of some unpleasant consequences or to gain advantage over others. Whatever the reason, the liar must understand that he can only deceive men and not God. Beyond that, he must know that “all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone…” (Revelation 21:8). It is better to tell the truth and if need be, suffer for it now than to tell lies and suffer for it later in eternity. The believer must tell the truth always because he belongs to the God of truth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Speak the truth and put Satan to shame.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
