DCLM Higher Everyday 12 November 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — My birthright:Not for Sale

TOPIC: MY BIRTHRIGHT: NOT FOR SALE

BIBLE TEXT: HEBREWS 12:12-17

12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

MEMORY VERSE: “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright” (HEBREWS 12:16).

MESSAGE:

According to Merriam Webster dictionary, the word ‘birthright’ is a “right, privilege, or possession to which a person is entitled by birth.” The synonyms of ‘birthright’ in dictionaries include heritage, inheritance and legacy. It means your birthright is a precious thing that needs to be well guarded. Stories abound of people that spend many years in courts to reclaim their stolen birthrights.

The story of Esau, who sold his birthright for a plate of pottage, is given in the text for meditation today. Esau was careless and carefree. He looked down on the most important thing in his life, and later cried to reclaim it in vain. There are the likes of Esau in the church today who play with their souls. They include the youths that give up their faith in Christ because of the pleasures of sin. If they die in disobedience – lying, fornication, cheating or any kind of sin, they will cry and weep eternally in hell where there is no repentance. Your salvation is your birthright. Do not sell it to the devil.

QUOTE: Your salvation is your birthright.

CHALLENGE: To say NO to sin, is to hear YES, in heaven.

PRAYER: Lord, keep me in Thee.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
