DCLM Sincere Milk 13 NOVEMBER 2021 — Weep Not

DCLM Sincere Milk 13 November 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Weep Not

TOPIC: WEEP NOT!

TEXT: ACTS 9:36-42

36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

Key Verse: “Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them” (Acts 9:39).

MESSAGE:

Babies like crying a lot. They cry when they are hungry, they cry when they want to sleep, they cry when they wake up from sleep, they cry at night and also cry during the day.

Many children who are friends of Jesus also cry like babies. They cry when they want something and mommy does not give them, they cry when mommy or daddy is very sick, they cry when their school fees are not paid and they also cry when they fail their exams; but crying does not solve any problem.

In our Bible passage, Tabitha, a friend of Jesus, was sick and she died. They sent for Peter to come and pray. Other believers who were with the dead body were crying.

“But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up” (Acts 9:40). Prayer did what crying could not do!

When next you are faced with pain or a problem, all you have to do is to pray. Do not go about weeping. Weeping causes self-pity, but prayer brings God’s mercy and solution. Tell it to Jesus! Pray and pray again until something happens.

Prayer: Lord, make me a prayerful child.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
