DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 6 DECEMBER 2021 — Deceitful Deeds

DCLM Higher Everyday 6 DECEMBER 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Deceitful Deeds

TOPIC: DECEITFUL DEEDS

TEXT: EXODUS 8:25-32

25 And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.

26 And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?

27 We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us.

28 And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.

29 And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.

30 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.

31 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one.

32 And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.

MEMORY VERSE: “And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh…to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD” (EXODUS 8:29).

MESSAGE:

Pharaoh’s stubbornness in not freeing the Israelites from servitude occasioned the plague of flies that besieged the Egyptians. He displayed false repentance and deceitfully agreed to let them go. As soon as the flies were removed, he hardened his heart, and refused to let the people go.

Just like Pharaoh, selfishness has poisoned the heart of many ungodly youths today and made them deceitful. The words of their mouths are filled with lies and flatteries. They deceive their parents, teachers, classmates, etc., in the name of ‘smartness’.

The thought of a natural youth is corrupt and his counsel is deceit. Jeremiah said “As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit” (Jeremiah 5:27). The judgment of God awaits all deceitful people if they fail to repent.

Therefore, the deceiver must acknowledge his/her sinful deeds, believe in Jesus for forgiveness and continue steadfastly in following Him and His eternal Word. We must speak the truth always in spite of some negative consequences that may follow. Shun deceit at all times.

QUOTE: Shun deceit at all times.

CHALLENGE: Take heed that no man deceives you.

PRAYER: Lord, deliver me from the spirit of the last days.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
