TOPIC: DRAW NEAR UNTO GOD

TEXT: JAMES 4:6-10

6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Key Verse: “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded” (James 4:8).

MESSAGE:

God desires to be in close relationship with the people He has created in His own image, especially you. But you cannot be in fellowship with Him when you are far away. You need to draw near unto Him through faith.

Relationship with God starts with coming to Him in humility, confessing all your sins, repenting from them and then surrendering your life to Jesus. You begin to please God and not yourself.

As you get closer to God, you become more like Christ in your thoughts and actions. As a believer, you must submit yourself to God and avoid every association with the ungodly works of darkness.

When a sinner comes to God, he overcomes worldliness, selfishness, envy, bad ambition, pride and every form of disobedience. There is no other place a person can get peace and victory over sin other than with God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me grace to live a victorious Christian life all the days of my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
