DCLM Sincere Milk 4 February 2023 — A new Name

DCLM Sincere Milk  4 February 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — A new Name

TOPIC: A NEW NAME

TEXT: Revelation 2:12-17

12And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

13I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

14But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

15So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

16Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

17He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Memory Verse: “… To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” Revelation 2:17b

MESSAGE:

The chorus of a hymn has this to say: “There’s a new name written down in glory,And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!And the white-robed angels sing the story
A sinner has come home.”
For there’s a new name written down in glory, And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine;
With my sins forgiven I am bound for heaven, Never more to roam.”

Names are important and significant in everyone’s life. Names are means of identification and they tell a lot about a person – where you come from, who or what you believe in. Some people give their children names in the Bible e.g. Mary, Jacob, Esther, Deborah, Paul, Elijah etc. All these are good. However, there is a special name for some special people.
Who are these people?

They are those who have forsaken their sins and are following Jesus daily in holiness of heart and life. God has given each of them a new name in heaven which no one else knows.
Maybe you are known as a stubborn child, backbiter, rogue, cheat or any kind of bad name because of your lifestyle.

The name can change today if you ask Jesus to forgive your sins, cleanse your heart/life of all evils and invite Him to be Saviour and Lord of your life. He will give you a new name which will be written down in heaven where you will live with Jesus forever. The time to take that decision to have a new name is now – do not delay.

Prayer: Father, I surrender all to You please give me a new name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
