DCLM Sincere Milk  30 October 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Follow Us

Topic: Follow Us

Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:5-7

5And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;

Key Verse: “For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;” 2 Thessalonians 3:7

Message

In the olden days, in many villages in the jungle, a single step that can only contain one person at a time would form the bridge across a very deep stream. Many of these bridges were often covered by water. Even parents could not carry their children while crossing. What they used to do was to advise the young children to be courageous and to follow their steps and never miss them. Many children who were afraid and missed the steps of their parents were swept away by the swift flowing water.

We are walking in a very narrow road to heaven. We are to follow the steps of those who have gone before us ad we are to leave our steps for those who are coming behind us. The Apostle Paul says, “For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us;” The reason why he commanded us to follow his example is because “we behave not ourselves disorderly among you;” The Christian life is all about following good examples. First, from Jesus, His apostles and then our godly parents and teachers. You should choose to follow those who follow the path of righteousness and godliness. You too must live a holy life as an example for others to follow.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to follow the godly examples of Your servants.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
