DCLM Sincere Milk  7 December 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God Loves And Corrects

Topic: God Loves And Corrects

Text: Proverbs 3:11-12

11My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

12For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Key Verse: “For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” Proverbs 3:12

Message

Dave, though intelligent performed poorly in his studies because he spent too much time watching cartoons. To help him give more time to his studies, his dad stopped him from watching cartoons except on weekends when he was done with his assignments and house chores. Dave’s performance in his studies got better and he later became the best student in his class. Correction comes to make us better.

God corrects those He loves. He corrects our wrong behaviour, thoughts and desires in order to direct us back to the path of righteousness so we can be like His dear Son, Jesus Christ. God corrects us through the conviction of the Holy Spirit, through His word that we read and hear and also uses our parents, pastors, teachers and other ways to correct us. Do not reject or argue with God’s word and His Spirit, rather ask Him to help you to be humble, repent and obey His word. Do not get angry or fight back when your teachers and parents correct you. Although correction sometimes might be painful, the little pain would soon be forgotten and turn to blessing if you endure it like it happened to Dave in the story.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to accept Your correction and obey You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
