Topic: God’s Vineyard
Bible Reading: Luke 13:6-9 (KJV)
6He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
8And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:
9And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.
KEY VERSE: “And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down,” Luke 13:9
Message
The first garden that God planted was filled with trees pleasant to the eyes and good for food. (Genesis 2:8-9) Adam was the first vinedresser: We now learn that God does not just plant trees for beauty, but more so for bearing fruits that delight His heart and nourish mankind. Every tree in God’s garden must bear fruits or it is cut down. Jesus tells us a story about a certain farmer who complained of a tree in his garden that was not bearing fruits, He instructed his servants that it should be cut down. The servants pleaded with their master that they would manure the tree for a season and see if it would bring fruits and if not, cut it down.
Now, friends of Jesus represent the trees in God’s garden. Children of God are vines planted in the Church of God. Jesus is the vine Dresser taking the trouble of nurturing and caring for them. He labours in prayer and provisions for all His friends that they may bear fruits of the Spirit, fruits of a pure heart, fruits of righteous living that bring glory to God. He also desires they bear fruit of soul winning by preaching and bringing sinful children to Jesus. Are you a friend of Jesus? Are you bearing visible fruits? May the Lord make you fruitful!
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, help me to be a fruitful servant in Your vineyard bearing the fruits of holy living wherever I go.
FURTHER READING
Hosea 10:1-3
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
