TOPIC: HEARERS AND DOERS

TEXT: JAMES 1:22-25

22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

MEMORY VERSE: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (JAMES 1:22).

MESSAGE:

A man once lived in New York City and died at the age of 63 without ever working. He obtained many degree certificates but never practiced what he learnt because he had access to a trust fund that had been left to him by a wealthy relative who passed away when he was just a child.

The trust fund stated that, “As long as the man is in school, he should be supported with enough money.” The man decided to remain in school till he died not because of his thirst for knowledge but as a means of getting income.

Unfortunately, many youths have been hearing from God’s word from childhood but they never do it. The huge number of people that go to church has not significantly reduced the crime rate in our societies. Many people go to church as routine.

Hence, Jesus said, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46). Dear friend, make a commitment to be a doer of God’s Word and not a hearer only.

QUOTE: Be a doer of God’s Word and not a hearer only.

CHALLENGE: Be sure you do all you hear from the word of God.

PRAYER: Holy Father, give me the grace to obey Your word, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
