TOPIC: HEROES’ DAIRY – II

TEXT: HEBREWS 11:8-19

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

MEMORY VERSE: “But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city” (HEBREWS 11:16).

MESSAGE:

The Holy Bible calls Abraham the father of faith because he obeyed God’s call and went out of his known land and people to the unknown. This is one of the things that stand him out as a hero of faith – he obeyed God’s call.

Second, he believed God’s promise to give him a son even in old age. On this the Bible declares, “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:20).

Yes, Abraham was persuaded that what Jehovah had promised He was “able also to perform.” His faith was imputed to him for righteousness. Third, He obeyed God when He tested him with the sacrifice of his only son, Isaac. What an active faith! Through it, the nation, Israel, was established and all nations on earth became blessed.

Like Abraham, God’s children must have a strong faith for success in education, career and Christian life and service. It is the sure ground to stand on in times of trouble, trial and temptation. Faith comes by hearing God’s Word.

QUOTE: God’s children must have strong faith.

CHALLENGE: Faith is a sure ground to stand on in trouble.

PRAYER: O God, help me to live by faith in Jesus’ Name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
