DCLM Sincere Milk 20 November 2022 — Heroes of Faith

DCLM Sincere Milk 20 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Heroes of Faith

TOPIC: HEROES OF FAITH

TEXT: HEBREWS 11:32-37

32And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

33Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

34Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

35Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

36And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

37They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

Key Verse: “Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,” (Hebrews 11:33).

MESSAGE:

It is wonderful to know that people who lived at different times and ages, with different backgrounds, under different circumstances, could do great works of faith that the Bible testified of their worthy deeds. Their faith in God produced supernatural works.

The Bible, which is the word of God, identifies these heroes of faith, and they include:

(a) Gideon, who at first thought he was a nobody, but through encouragement, delivered the children of Israel from their powerful enemies with only three hundred soldiers.

(b) Barak, in partnership with Deborah, waxed valiant in fight and turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

(c) Jephthah, through faith, fought the battle of the Lord and delivered his people from the hand of their enemies.

(d) David, through faith in God, brought down Goliath, the giant.

(e) Samuel was a prophet who wrought righteousness and stood for God’s honour in the midst of corruption.

(f) Women, like the Shunamite, who through faith confessed that it is well and received her dead child back to life when Prophet Elisha prayed.

Others, through faith, endured persecution for Christ’s sake. They are all worthy examples for us to copy. Have faith in God, live by faith in God’s word, and you will become a hero of faith.

Prayer: Lord, give me faith to do exploits for You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
