DCLM Sincere Milk 19 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The dutiful learners

TOPIC: THE DUTIFUL LEARNERS

TEXT: DANIEL 1:17-20

17As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

18Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

19And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

Key Verse: “And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm” (Daniel 1:20).

MESSAGE:

Among the people taken captive to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. Their names were changed to Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego respectively.

These four boys were dutiful learners who did well in their studies. Our key verse confirms that “…in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm” (Daniel 1:20).

How did they become ten times better than others? This was possible because God gave them knowledge, skills and wisdom. These are great blessings from the Lord to all His children. Also, they worked hard at their studies. Jesus’ friends today must be diligent in their studies too.

To show you are diligent in your studies, you will be regular in class, write all your notes neatly, do and submit your assignments promptly and prepare well for examinations. You will take personal studies seriously and ask questions where you do not understand. You will keep away from examination malpractices.

Believe the Lord to grant you ability to remember what you have read. Your motto should be: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord” (Romans 12:11).

Prayer: Lord, make me the head and not the tail.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
