DCLM Higher Everyday 23 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — His supernatural life
TOPIC: HIS SUPERNATURAL LIFE
TEXT: MATTHEW 1:18-25
19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (MATTHEW 1:23).
MESSAGE:
Isaiah, a Hebrew prophet who lived about 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, prophesied that Jesus would be born of a virgin. That means that the biological process of conception was not followed in Jesus’ case.
That was a key demonstration that Jesus Christ was a divine being and therefore not an offspring of the depraved man. This quality is critical in His mandate of saving mankind from sin as only a sinless being was qualified as a sin offering and propitiation for the sinful man.
Jesus was born of a virgin to take away the sin of the whole world. There are four main things that the world has been fighting against about Jesus. First, His virgin birth (incarnation); second, His physical death; third, His resurrection; and fourth, His Second Coming.
If they succeed in explaining all these away, then Christianity would have lost its foundation. However, internal evidence in the Bible proves that Jesus was born of a virgin. Have you surrendered your life to Him as your Saviour?
QUOTE: Jesus was born of a virgin.
CHALLENGE: Allow Jesus’ birth to have effect in your life.
PRAYER: Lord, save my soul from sin.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
