DCLM Higher Everyday 27 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — I believe God
TOPIC: I BELIEVE GOD
TEXT: ACTS 27:20-27
21But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss.
22And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.
23For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
24Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.
25Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
26Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
27But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria, about midnight the shipmen deemed that they drew near to some country;
MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (ACTS 27:25).
MESSAGE:
Kathryn Kuhlman, a great woman of God who once lived, was fond of saying to her audience, “I believe in miracles because I believe in God!” She believed He could turn difficult situations around, and so it happened in her ministry.
In our text, Apostle Paul was on a voyage to Rome, with two hundred and seventy-five other passengers. The journey which had started smoothly suddenly became tempestuous. The storm was so strong that the passengers began to lose hope of surviving the journey, but not Paul. His confidence was in God’s word through an angel that night – that everyone would escape the storm alive. He believed God and, although it appeared impossible, everyone in the ship was saved.

Sometimes, you may find yourself suddenly besieged by ‘storms’ after some smooth sailing in life’s journey. Such storms could arise in the form of delay in paying your school fees, sickness, or unresolved challenges between your parents. Just like Paul, believe God’s Word for help (Isaiah 41:10). He will surely help as you take those challenges to Him in prayer.
QUOTE: Believe God’s word for help.
CHALLENGE: Faith in God will bring us out of life’s challenges.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to believe your promise in every storm of life. Amen.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
