DCLM Higher Everyday 24 October 2025 — Impatient Israel
DCLM Higher Everyday 24 October 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Impatient Israel
Topic: Impatient Israel
Text: Exodus 32:1-8
1And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
3And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
4And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
5And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.
6And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
7And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Key Verse: “And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us…” (Exodus 32:1).
Message
To be impatient is to be restlessly eager to do something. The children of Israel were on their way to the Promised Land when God called Moses to come to Mount Sinai where God handed over to him two tables of stone written with the finger of God. He received various laws and commandments including how and who to make the altar, the tabernacle, the clothing of the priests, etc. Moses temporarily handed the leadership baton to Aaron and Hur during the period he was on the Mount (Exodus 24:12-18). The children of Israel became impatient because Moses delayed to come down from the Mount, having spent forty days and night there.

One of the greatest causes of impatience as seen in our memory verse is dependence on men, instead of God. The children of Israel did not see God as the Author and Finisher of their faith and resorted to murmuring instead of praying to God when Moses was away. Always see God in your endeavours and wait for Him who will neither fail nor lie.
Quote: Always see God in your endeavours
Challenge: Don’t have faith in men.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to be patient under pressure.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
