Topic: In Everything, Give Thanks.
Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18
16Rejoice evermore.
17Pray without ceasing.
18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Key Verse: “Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
Message
A man was fond of saying, “Let us thank God in every situation.” The man had only one male teenage child and some people who wanted to test the man’s faith waylaid his only son and broke his leg. But the man still said, “Let us thank God in every situation.” Soon after, war broke out between his community and a neighbouring village. All the teenage boys were conscripted into battle, but this man’s son was left alone because of his broken leg. Most of the boys that went to the war did not return alive.
Our Bible text says that in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. What appeared to be a disappointment can be God’s appointment. Joseph was sold into slavery and that became the route to his becoming a Prime Minister in Egypt. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into a fiery furnace and that became their source of promotion. If you are in Christ, give thanks in any circumstance God permits in your life. It will end in praise.
Quote: It will end in praise
Challenge: Trust in God’s unfailing promises.
Prayer for today: Holy Father, help me to praise you in all things, in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
