TOPIC: LAUNCH INTO THE DEEP
TEXT: LUKE 5:1-8
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Key Verse: “Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught” (Luke 5:4).
MESSAGE
The dictionary defines deep as a physical distance extending far away from a point of reference, especially downward. It is a point that extends far down from the top or surface. This description gives us the picture of what happened in the encounter of Jesus with His first disciples who were fishermen.
One day, Peter and some of his professional fishermen went to the sea to fish. They were experienced fishermen, but this day, their experience failed them. They toiled all night but caught nothing. It was as if the fishes avoided the nets of these fishermen. They went and hid themselves in the deepest part of the sea to escape the net and the pot of the fishermen. This notwithstanding, when the Master of the oceans and seas appeared on the scene, the situation changed, and the fishermen’s story turned to testimony of net-breaking harvest.
This miracle happened because: firstly, Jesus appeared at the right time, He is never late. Secondly, Peter surrendered his boat to Christ. Thirdly, he obeyed the command to launch into the deep. It was a simple obedience of faith.
Now, it is your turn to launch into the deep of God’s grace and mercy, you will receive salvation for your soul. Surrender your heart (boat) to Jesus, He will come in and ‘sup’ with you. Launch into the deep of faith in His word, and there shall be a miracle of breakthrough and satisfaction for all your needs.
Prayer: Lord, I open my heart unto You, fill me with Your love and grace.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
