TOPIC: Maintaining Godly Pattern (DCLM Daily Manna 1 June 2023)

KEY VERSE: “And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the porters also by their courses at every gate…” (2 Chronicles 8:14).

TEXT: 2 Chronicles 8:14-18 (KJV)

14 And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.

15 And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures.

16 Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the Lord, and until it was finished. So the house of the Lord was perfected.

17 Then went Solomon to Eziongeber, and to Eloth, at the sea side in the land of Edom.

18 And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Every worthwhile venture follows a pattern in order to achieve set goals. God’s desire for the maintenance of pattern in service and worship, our lifestyle and daily living fills the whole Scripture. Even in setting up a tabernacle in the wilderness, God prepared a model to be followed by His servant, Moses.

The passage today shows Solomon’s complete adherence to the pattern of God’s service laid down by his late father, David. Although Solomon was a wise king, he did not introduce a strange, new, personalised, modernised or populist dimension to the laid down pattern. The priests, Levites and porters were all painstakingly and duly appointed and assigned their responsibilities. The congregation also did not mount pressure on the leader to change the pattern and the mode of operation.

God has set patterns for all His children to follow in all areas of their lives. The Bible is the ‘treatise’, that reveals the pattern every believer should follow if they must be perfect before the Lord. In every congregation, family and individual’s life, the issue of following God’s pattern as contained in the Bible is imperative. Issues like church administration and pattern of worship, marriage and family life, dressing and social life, and indeed, our day-to-day lifestyle should be guided by God’s approved plans. Doing otherwise will only lead to His disapproval.

Every individual, family and congregation must conduct a thorough self-examination to find out anything that does not conform to God’s pattern. We must ensure every fault discovered is truly and entirely discontinued.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Following God’s unchanging standard attracts His undeniable favour.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
1 Samuel 23-24

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
