TOPIC: NO REASON TO BRAG

TEXT: JEREMIAH 9:23-25

23 Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

25 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;

Key Verse: “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches” (Jeremiah 9:23).

MESSAGE:

Alice was the most brilliant student in her school. In the third term of the school session, the school arranged special classes for Junior Secondary students to enable them do well in their final examinations.

Every student took the classes seriously, except Alice. She claimed that the arrangement was a distraction and she would rather read on her own. She boasted before her classmates that she was going to have the best result in the school without any help.

Do you know what happened? Alice failed all her important subjects and had to re-enroll for the examinations with her juniors. It was a big shame for the proud and arrogant Alice.

God is the Creator of everything. All that we have are given to us by Him. Hence, no one should boast of anything; whether wisdom, talent/gift or any earthly material possessions.

Human society is filled with people who are proud and arrogant because of their achievements. They fail to give glory to the Almighty God Who is the giver of all good things. Remember that it was pride that made Lucifer (Satan) lose his place in heaven.

Do not allow pride to take over your life because of your talents, gifts, beauty or parents’ riches. Be a humble child, because humility is the nature of Jesus. Follow Christ’s example, and you will do well.

Prayer: O Lord, help me to follow Christ’s example, and do well.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
