DCLM Higher Everyday 18 October 2022 — Obedience to God is Obligatory

DCLM Higher Everyday 18 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Obedience to God is Obligatory

TOPIC: OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS OBLIGATORY

TEXT: EXODUS 19:1-8

1In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

2For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

3And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

4Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.

5Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

6And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

8And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

MEMORY VERSE: “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine” (EXODUS 19:5).

MESSAGE:

All of God’s promises are hinged on obedience. Also, God’s blessings and covenant with His children are sustained by obedience. Half or partial obedience is disobedience. Adam and Eve, Pharaoh, Moses, Saul, the young prophet, Jonah and Balaam, all experienced the painful consequences of disobedience.

Implicit obedience starts in hearing God’s word. Once He has spoken, our obedience should be prompt, entire and unconditional: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22).

We must not understand in details all of God’s instructions before we obey Him. There is no sense in coming up with your own ideas when it is only God’s counsel that will stand. Rebellion against God’s will attracts His displeasure and wrath. It leads to avoidable problems such as withdrawal of God’s favour, stagnation, delay, failure and even untimely death.

My friend, are there some areas in your life in which you are not obedient to God? Maybe not outright sin; possibly, unequal yoke with sinners or not letting your light shine. Do not be a disobedient child.

QUOTE: Do not be a disobedient child.

CHALLENGE: Spiritual growth is directly proportional to obedience.

PRAYER: Lord, give me a heart that trembles at your word.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
