DCLM Sincere Milk 18 October 2022 — Oh, my home
DCLM Sincere Milk 18 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Oh, my home
TOPIC: OH, MY HOME!
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 3:1-4
2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Key Verse: “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1).
MESSAGE:
The slave trade was a major business in the olden days. The slaves were usually taken and engaged in forceful labour far from their homes and wished they would return someday. It was during this time that some slaves composed a song they usually sang in remembrance of their homes:
“Oh my home…
Oh my home…
When shall I see my home?
When shall I see my native land, I will never forget my home.”
Actually, no place, no matter how beautiful it may be, can be like one’s home. *Heaven is the home of all believers. We are mere strangers and travelers on earth, and as such, we should always think of our home in heaven and prepare to get there.

Our preparation to get to heaven will include rejecting the dirty and corrupting activities of this world, living a holy life and daily focusing on Jesus Christ. The Bible commands us in 1 Peter 2:11, “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul”.
Do not allow anything to shift your attention from your sweet home. Getting to heaven and living with Jesus eternally should be your daily priority, goal and desire in life.
Prayer: Lord, help me to focus on heaven and never be distracted by the activities in the world.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
