DCLM Higher Everyday 30 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Opportunity For Work
Topic: Opportunity For Work
1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
Text: John 9:1-7
Key Verse: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4).
Message
From creation, God built work into the schedule of humankind. Work is the physical or mental effort directed at doing or making something. It is carrying out a task. Otto Von Bismarck declared, “To youth I have but three words of counsel – work, work, work.” Every situation around Jesus presented an opportunity for work as He worked with the Father at the creation of the world; and we should follow suit. We are shown in our text a man that was born blind and immediately Jesus saw him He did not waste time to work. Our hands should not be idle lest Satan engages us in his workshop. We need to seize every opportunity to work for Jesus everywhere we go.
Every situation should present a youth with an opportunity to do some work like household chores, evangelism, singing in the choir, teaching others in the school fellowship, and using our talents and gifts whenever opportunities knock. As you step out today, get yourself busy in productive activities. However, do not neglect your studies as a student.
Quote: Our hands should not be idle
Challenge: Work while it is day – the night is coming.
Prayer for today: Oh Lord, strengthen me for the work ahead of me today.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
