DCLM Higher Everyday 20 September 2023 — Patience Of Pilgrims

DCLM Higher Everyday  20 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Patience Of Pilgrims

Topic: Patience Of Pilgrims

Text: Hebrews 10:30-39

30For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

33Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

34For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Key Verse: “For you have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise” (Hebrews 10: 36).

Message

According to Darrel Lee, “We don’t go far in our Christian experience before trials come and we find that we must sometimes wait upon God for His answers. Waiting certainly requires patience, and this is God’s way of helping develop that spiritual attribute.” Patience is the ability to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. To excel in life, you must put on the garb of patience. It improves your ability to accept setbacks and toil harder for success. Those who have patience, persevere and make more productive decisions which pave way for more successes. It takes patience for one to pray and study hard for spiritual and academic excellence. Success always comes to those who keep trying.

Patience is a great factor in success. With patience you can avoid frustration, which can cause quitting. It aids one to think more positively and make better decisions. A patient student draws a workable timetable and follows it religiously in order to perform well in academic endeavours. The heavenly race also calls for patience.

Quote: Keep trying

Challenge: Put on the garb of patience to excel.

Prayer for today: Let this virtue called patience, be in me, O God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
