TOPIC: PEER INFLUENCE
TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 2:13-14
14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:
MEMORY VERSE: “For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews” (1 THESSALONIANS 2:14).
MESSAGE:
Someone wrote: “Surround yourself with people who will lift you higher.” The starting point to be what God wants you to be is to wisely choose your companions and the company you keep. An adage says, “Show me your friends and I will show you who you are.”
A wise youth can discern between what is acceptable to God and what will displease Him. You should have the courage to say yes to positive influence and no to negative peer influence. What is wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it; and what is right is right even if no one is doing it.

Apostle Paul wrote, “…ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men” (1 Thessalonians 5:15). Positive peer influence should make you to join other youths in the choir, ushers’ team, prayer warriors, gospel publishing team, and so on.
Christian youths should desire to wield positive influence over fellow students. It is our calling as Christians to be light and salt in the world preventing darkness and preserving purity everywhere, every time.
QUOTE: Desire to wield positive influence.
CHALLENGE: Impact others positively.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to be a lifter of men to higher levels.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
