DCLM Higher Everyday 28 November 2022 — Power to preach

DCLM Higher Everyday 28 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Power to preach

TOPIC: POWER TO PREACH

TEXT: ACTS 1:4-8

4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith heye have heard of me.

5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

MEMORY VERSE: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (ACTS 1:8).

MESSAGE:

In his Missionary Review of 1882, the Presbyterian minister, Arthur T. Pierson wrote that the three things needed to finish the Great Commission and evangelize the world were: The whole church involvement, evangelistic zeal in believers and finally the baptismal power of the Holy Spirit. He was responsible for the Student Volunteer Movement over 100 years ago.

Jesus asked His disciples to preach repentance and forgiveness of sins to all nations in Luke 24:47, but to first wait to be endued with the promised Pentecostal power (Acts 1:8). It was after this experience that the disciples began to see real results in their ministries.

This power is essential for preaching the gospel of Christ globally with deep conviction, unquestionable wisdom, boldness and conversion of sinners. Ours is to preach, the Holy Spirit does the conviction and conversion. To receive this Power, you must be saved and purified; then pray in faith (Luke 11:9-13). Stephen, the martyr who preached with great boldness and Evangelist Philip who took the gospel to Samaria with wonderful results, all had the Holy Ghost power.

QUOTE: This power is essential for preaching.

CHALLENGE: The promise of the Holy Ghost is for all.

PRAYER: Oh God, give me the promised power, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
