DCLM Higher Everyday 24 June 2026 — Powerful Praise
Topic: Powerful Praise
Bible Reading: Acts 16:25-26(KJV)
25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
KEY VERSE: And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them” (Acts 16:25).
Message
At midnight, Paul and Silas who had been beaten and imprisoned with their feet in stocks, prayed and sang praises unto God. Their joyful attitude in suffering exemplifies the injunction that we should not worry about anything but rather pray and give thanks to God in everything (Philippians 4:6). But what were their thanksgiving for? Dick Eastman says, “Basically, thanksgiving is the act of expressing specific, gratitude to God for blessings He has bestowed upon us. These expressions may be mental or vocal.” But were the physical and emotional pains that Paul and Silas were going through blessings? May be no, from human standpoint. But God’s word says, “…count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations” (James 1:2). Hence, they did not murmur and complain, and God delivered them.
Solemn worship and praise are what the angels and elders do in heaven. As a young believer, you may be in one kind of suffering or another. Do not be discouraged. “It’s always darkest before the dawn,” says a song writer. So, turn your worries to praise and prayer for help.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Oh God, give me the grace to praise You always.
CHALLENGE
Spend time to praise God, no matter your condition.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
