TOPIC: PERSEVERING TO SUCCEED

BIBLE TEXT: JUDGES 8:1-5

1And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

2And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

3God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

4And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

5And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

MEMORY VERSE:”And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint and yet pursuing them” (Judges 8:4).

MESSAGE

Vince Lombardi Jr powerfuly asserted: The difference between a successtul person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of perseverance”. Perseverance is sticking with things. It means being hardworking and finishing what is started, despite barriers and obstacles that arise. The pleasure received from completing tasks and projects is very important to those who are high in perseverance.

You must muster the will to overcome thoughts of giving up. Perseverance involves the voluntary continuation of a goal- directed action despite the presence of challenges, difficulties, and discouragement. Gideon and his men exemplified this virtue. In spite of their tiredness, they persevered and overcame all the challenges in their way to victory. Youths that persevere will surely achieve their goals and become successful in life. Yes, you must persevere in your studies and career, and be determined never to give up. However, if you have not made Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour, do it right now and He will give you the strength to persevere.

QUOTE: Persevere in your studies and career.

CHALLENGE: Persevere in the face of difficulties of life.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to persevere till l succeed, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
