DCLM Sincere Milk  19 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiPunishment For The World

Topic: Punishment For The World

Text: Isaiah 13:9-11

9Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

10For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

11And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.

Key Verse: “And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity;” Isaiah 13:11a

Message

Children are always afraid when they hear of punishment. Nobody likes to be punished anyway. But there are conducts that attract punishment. Punishment comes as a result of breaking laid down rules. These rules may be set by the family, school, society or by God. Why should people who are not afraid to break the rules be afraid of punishment? It is selfish for you to beg your Mom, Dad or Teacher not to punish you after you have broken or disobeyed the rules. Is it not right to punish the person who has done wrong? God is righteous, one way of proving this, is that He blesses those who do right and punishes those who do wrong.

Our Bible passage tells us that because of evil doings, the whole world will come under the severe punishment of God one day. But God has made a way of escape for you. Turn away from your bad ways, ask God for forgiveness, make Jesus your Saviour, continue to love Him and tell others of His love. That is the only way to escape the punishment of God.

Prayer for today: Lord, thank You for showing me how to escape Your righteous punishment; help me to obey You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
