DCLM Sincere Milk 25 May 2023 — Purify Yourself

DCLM Sincere Milk  25 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Purify Yourself

Topic: Purify Yourself

Text: 1 John 3:1-3

1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

2Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Key Verse: “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” 1 John 3:3

Message

No one likes to drink water with a dirty and polluted cup. If one mistakenly drinks water with a dirty cup, such a person can become sick as a result of infection through contamination. This illustration shows us the importance of cleanliness or purity of life. As we desire cleanliness of our physical body in order to enjoy good health, so must we desire purity of heart to achieve spiritual wellbeing.

God desires to have fellowship with His children but it can only be possible when we purify ourselves. Jesus has made provision for the means of purifying ourselves through His blood. Your part is to develop a strong desire for the experience of sanctification. Pray in faith and wait patiently for your heart to be cleansed. Then abstain from everything that can stain your life and cleave unto Jesus, be prayerful, watchful and keep the word of God as a guard over your heart. The hope of seeing Jesus in heaven is the reason for purifying yourself. Keep yourself pure!

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
