DCLM Higher Everyday 1 July 2026 — Purpose In The Pain
Topic: Purpose In The Pain
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 4:12-16 (KJV)
12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
14If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
KEY VERSE: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:13).
Message
Every champion has discovered that pain is seasonal. It will pass. It is the passage to promotion,” says Mike Murdock. An athlete preparing for a tournament goes through high intensity training exercises, long aerobic workout and a strict diet not minding the pain, in order to participate in a competition to win earthly glory. In our text, Apostle Peter says that as we await the coming of Christ, we are going to face trials, temptations and persecutions. But in the harrowing pains in these challenges, there are purposes we may not know but known to our God. Hence, Warren Wiersbe says, “Calvary is God’s great proof that suffering in the will of God always leads to glory.” Jesus Christ suffered pain and shame but is now glorified.
Dear friend, as long as we suffer for righteousness’ sake, we shall triumph at last. The saints of old such as Joseph, Daniel, Paul and Silas, did not make it on a platter of gold – they all went through pains. Our victory is sure! Just hold on to your conviction till the end.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, help me to be strong in the midst of adversity.
CHALLENGE
Remain in the faith for your victory is sure.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
