TOPIC: GODLY DETERMINATION
TEXT: DANIEL 1:3-9

3And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;

4Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

5And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

6Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

7Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

8But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

Key Verse: “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).
MESSAGE:
Daniel was an Israelite who was taken captive to Babylon from Judah. He was an interpreter of dreams and visions. He was promoted during the reign of Darius to be among the three presidents. He was a faithful servant to the king and God. He wrote the book of Daniel.
Immediately he got to Babylon, King Nebuchadnezzar gave him and his three friends scholarship to study in the king’s special school. At that time, Babylon was the centre of idol worship. Daniel stood out and was distinct to the glory of God through godly determination. This was a difficult decision in a strange land, but he stood firmly because he knew the truth and believed it.
Have you been taught the truth of the word of God? Hold it fast; believe it, and it will strengthen you to stand for God. Daniel never regretted his fearless decision and determination to be godly. Young people in the Bible days did not always bother about what they will lose or gain for standing for God and His word.
In this generation, God is looking for another Daniel with godly character to stand for Him in every community. For this vision to be achieved, you must purpose in your heart to live for God despite oppositions from your peers.
There are great rewards when you stand for the Lord. These rewards include promotion, prosperity, power, peace, protection, preservation and paradise at last.
Prayer: My God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, raise me to be a godly child for Your glory.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
