TEXT: PSALM 119:73-80

73 JOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

74 They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.

75 I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.

76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.

77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.

78 Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.

79 Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.

80 Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

MEMORY VERSE: “Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed” (PSALM 119:80).

An ass can neither grow nor have the required strength to carry heavy loads it is used to carry in the desert without sufficient daily intake of water. In the same vein, the growth and accomplishment of every son and daughter of God largely depends on daily feeding on and practical knowledge of the heavenly manna, the word of God.

God’s word gives us life, spiritually and physically. It makes us grow in faith and prepares us for heaven. It provides us with weapons to fight spiritual battles. It gives us guidance, peace and hope. Its promises cover all human needs and problems.

It is only the Bible that gives solution to the problem of sin. The sweet psalmist of Israel understood all this. That was why he declared that God’s law was his delight. He also prayed for understanding of His precepts. Even the Lord Jesus used it to overcome Satan.

To be sound in God’s word, we must read, study and meditate on it daily like David. Believers who are empty of God’s word will be easily defeated by Satan.

QUOTE: God’s word gives life.

CHALLENGE: The Holy Bible has solution to every human problem.

PRAYER: Give me understanding of your word, O God!

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
