Topic: Spotting The Difference
Text — : 1 John 4:4-6
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Key Verse: “We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error” (1 John 4:6).
Message
Martin Luther declared, “From the beginning of my Reformation I have asked God to send me neither dreams, nor visions, nor angels, but to give me the right understanding of His Word, the Holy Scriptures; for as long as I have God’s Word, I know that I am walking in His way and that I shall not fall into any error or delusion.” Some believers embrace the truth and others thrive on falsehood. Anyone who does not accept the doctrines taught by the Lord Jesus Christ does not belong to Him.
The saying in John 8:47: “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God,” applies to all so-called Christians, no matter their titles, piety, or zeal. Believers are commanded not to meddle with peddlers of errors but to escape from them. True Christianity shows in our readiness to receive and obey the totality of God’s Word. God’s Word is the only source of joy and means of salvation. Proper knowledge of the truth frees us from every error.
Quote: The truth frees us
Challenge: Blood-washed saints should not meddle with pretenders.
Prayer for today: Help me dear Lord to abide in the truth.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
