TOPIC: STEPS TO BIBLICAL REPENTANCE

TEXT: ROMANS 10:6-13

6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above🙂

7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

MEMORY VERSE: “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel” (MARK 1:15).

MESSAGE:

“True repentance is no light matter. It is a thorough change of heart about sin, a change showing itself in godly sorrow, heartfelt confession before the throne of grace, a complete breaking off from sinful habits, and an abiding hatred for all sin. Such repentance is the inseparable companion of saving faith in Christ.” This is the position of J. C. Ryle.

Biblical Repentance is a total break away from sin. Many church goers are yet to take the steps that can grant them salvation. Unfortunately, many youths are caught in this web. Are you born again?

The steps to biblical repentance includes: acknowledgement of sins, confession and readiness to forsake them, faith in Christ’s atoning sacrifice, and acceptance of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When these steps are genuinely taken with faith in Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour, you shall be saved.

It is also pertinent to constantly bear the fruit of the Spirit and maintain unbroken relationship with God and the brethren. With Jesus reigning within you, the result is deep hatred for sin, showing the proof of biblical repentance.

QUOTE: Bear the fruit of the Spirit.

CHALLENGE: Biblical repentance is a total break away from sin.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, save me from all sins.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
