Topic: Synergizing For Gainful Labour
Text: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
9Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
12And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Key Verse: “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour” (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
Message
The word ‘Synergy’ is a Greek word meaning, “Working Together.” One of the hymns we grew up singing, by C. Austin Miles, reads in part:
“So you bring the one next to you
And I’ll bring the one next to me;
In all kinds of weather,
We’ll all work together,
And see what can be done…”
Have you observed how players or sportsmen strategize in order to achieve a common objective? Synergy is an essential component of today’s competitive world. God designed us to need one another. Jethro’s wise advice to Moses to delegate some of his responsibilities convinced him to share the workload with other leaders (Exodus 18:13-27).This principle of delegation is being applied successfully in the Church and secular world today.
As Christian youths, we tend to think we can make it on our own. Do you feel overwhelmed by your responsibilities? Begin to harness your vision today by synergizing with vision builders, not vision killers. Gainful labour is a product of shared responsibilities. It helps you to discover and develop your God-given abilities for a fulfilled life.
Quote: Synergize with vision builders
Challenge: Do not be a lone ranger.
Prayer for today: Lord, give me the grace to benefit from others’ strengths.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
