TOPIC: THE MAID WITH A MESSAGE

TEXT: 2 KINGS 5:1-5

1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

MEMORY VERSE: “And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy” (2 KINGS 5:3).

MESSAGE:

Evangelist David Brainerd, was ordained in June 1743 by the presbytery of Newark with a probation. He was devoted in evangelizing the oppressed native Indian Americans in remote communities (Acts 26:17, 18).

Despite his health challenges, he summed his unbreakable courage in “I’ll spend my life to my latest moments, in caves and dens of the earth, if this kingdom of Christ may thereby be advanced. My heaven is to please God and glorify Him.”

The maid in our text today was a war captive, separated from her parents, friends and nation to serve the wife of Naaman, the leper and general of the Syrian army. Her state did not depress her to forget the power of God through His prophet, Elisha, in Samaria.

She preached the message of deliverance, healing and salvation from the God of Israel. Her words were told to General Naaman and the King of Syria. That was how Naaman got healed, forsook idolatry and worshipped the God of Israel. You too can send the salvation message of Jesus to a sin ravaged world.

QUOTE: Send the salvation message of Jesus.

CHALLENGE: Don’t let perils stop your duty to evangelize.

PRAYER: Father, give me grace to preach Jesus everywhere.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
