DCLM Higher Everyday 25 May 2024 — The Believers’ Authority
Topic: The Believers’ Authority
Text: Luke 10:17-24
17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
20Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
21In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.
22All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
23And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see:
24For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Key Verse: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).
Message
Our Bible text of today, reveals the rare and unparalleled privilege at the beckon of the believer in Christ. “Behold, I give unto you power…” In talking about the believer’s authority, we are talking about the right or power to enforce rules, laws, policies or orders. Christians are authorized to do what Jesus would do if He were physically on earth. We have authority over Satan, demons, occultic forces, and sicknesses. Jesus Christ categorically said, “…In my name shall they cast out devils.” What an awesome, indescribable power is given to believing boys and girls in Christ Jesus! It simply means you have the right to give orders, and enforce compliance on every issue as God’s child.
That is the authority you wield. You need not be afraid of such things as academic failure, sickness, witches, wizards, or any dark powers. Ensure you are born again, and you will be able to exercise the power of attorney over “all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” You are unstoppable, indestructible, indomitable and unconquerable!
Quote: Do what Jesus would do
Challenge: Rise up, claim and use your unfailing authority in Christ.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to use the authority you’ve given me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
