Topic: Don’t Be Left Behind
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV)
13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
KEY VERSE: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
Message
For centuries, the great expectation of saints all over the world is the return of Jesus Christ to take away his sons and daughters from this wicked world. The doctrine of the rapture is not misplaced. Peter and the other apostles heard Christ when he told them he would prepare a place for them in His Father’s house and return to take them to Himself to live with Him forever. Yet believers must be aware that Christ also said some might be careless and miss going with Him when He returns. Such careless believers would be left behind. Our passage for today gives hope to all saints of God. It reassures us that Christ would come back for His children, both the living and the dead- those who might die before His return.
What happens to sinners, backsliders, hypocrites, and nominal church attendees? They will be highly disappointed. They will be shocked to discover that they wasted the privilege of turning to God and regret the painful repercussions of sinful living. You must be born again today to prepare for the rapture.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, help to be ready for Your return.
CHALLENGE
No Jesus, no hope!
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
