DCLM Sincere Milk  17 March 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The milk!

TOPIC: THE MILK!

TEXT: 1 PETER 2:1-3

1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

KEY VERSE: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” (1 PETER 2:1)

MESSAGE:

Children love milk a lot, whether it is powdered or liquid. Milk is sweet and nutritious. It supplies nutrients to help children grow and keep healthy. It is natural and normal for babies to have a desire for milk, they sometimes cry when they want it. Just as children desire natural milk, friends of Jesus are to desire spiritual milk, which is the word of God.

A desire for the word of God should be natural for friends of Jesus. One of the signs that a child might be sick is an unwillingness to eat. In the same way, a lack of desire to read and listen to God’s word is a sign that there is a problem. True friends do love to talk and hear from each other.

For babies, breast milk provides all the necessary nutrients they need in the right proportion for healthy growth. So also, the word of God has everything a friend of Jesus needs. Jesus is the Living Word. Everything that God can do, His word can do as well. It cleanses us from sin, purifies us, helps us to grow, and gives us strength to overcome temptations. The word of God heals, keeps us from sin, protects, guides us from error, corrects, and does a lot more. Make up your mind to read it daily, think about what you read, pray about what you read, obey it, and share it with others.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Dear Father, please give me a strong desire for your word and more love for you.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
