DCLM Higher Everyday 26 February 2024 — The Obedience of Faith – Part 1

DCLM Higher Everyday 26 February 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiThe Obedience of Faith – Part 1

Topic: The Obedience of Faith – Part 1

Text: Hebrews 11:8-10

8By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

9By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

10For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Key Verse: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went” (Hebrews 11:8).

Message

When your father tells you to wash the family car and you do it, it is a normal obedience. However when you are told by God to do the incredible or something unreasonable by human standard and you obey, then that is obedience of faith. It is like when Jesus told Peter to launch out into the deep and cast his nets into the sea where he had laboured with his fishing colleagues all night without catching any fish. His obedience of faith produced a net-breaking miracle of fishes. So was Abraham. It didn’t make sense for him to leave the comfort zone of the land of his fathers for an unknown place that God was sending him to. Yet, he “…obeyed; and went out, not knowing wither he went.”

My Christian friend, be ready always to do whatever the will of God is. We must obey Him whether the message is clear or not. The faith of our Church fathers is a living faith. If it worked for them, it will also work for us if we obey.

Quote: It worked for them

Challenge: Obey whatever God says to you.

Prayer for today: Holy father, not my will but yours always in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
