TOPIC: THE PERILOUS TIMES
BIBLE TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 3:1-7
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
MEMORY VERSE: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy” (2 TIMOTHY 3:1, 2).
MESSAGE:
“The importance of the prophecy and warning against the perilous times cannot be over emphasized because we are living in the fulfillment of the perilous times,” said a Christian writer. Christendom in our contemporary period is replete with all kinds of social vices which are inimical to Christian faith and living. All kinds of evil are being paraded and perpetrated in the name of modernism, civilization and digitalization.
Selfishness is the order of the day. The lust of the eyes and flesh have led many unconverted youths to untold strange diseases such as the sexually transmitted disease, HIV and AIDS, and other chronic ailments. Covetousness is being promoted by the get-rich-quick syndrome as dictated and applauded by the society.
In our text, the Bible states clearly the vices that a Christian youth must avoid which will be prevalent in the last days. Steer clear of all evil behaviour and keep looking unto to Jesus for victory over sin, sickness and Satan. Fight against sin with the whole armour of God, preach the gospel, and live a consistent Christian life. Be wise.
QUOTE: Steer clear of all evil.
CHALLENGE: Avoid vices rife in the last days.
PRAYER: Help me, Lord, to live above sin.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
